Wali Dakkani (1667-1707), on the other hand, addressed moral issues and talked about the ethical conduct of people in his ghazals, which had so far been limited to conversations with women. In his poetry, his beloved takes many forms: sun, fire, mirror and light. In the following couplet, the poet invokes the sun as a simile:

Mukh tera aftaab mehshar hai

Noor uska jahaan mein ghar bhar hai

The beloved’s face is as bright as the sun,

Its radiance has spread to each and every house in the world.

By comparing his beloved’s face to the sun, Wali implies that she is also as popular as the sun, and that he can see her everywhere. He says in further appreciation of his beloved:

Chahta hai is jahan mein gar bahisht

Ja tamash dekh us rukhsaar ka

Yaad karna har ghadi us yaar ka

Hai wazifa mujh dil-e beemaar ka

If you desire to dwell in paradise in this world

Go and watch the frolics of that beauty

Remembrance of that beloved, every moment

ensures the subsistence of this sick heart.
